Bass sitting on big platform
Bluelake is located about 20 miles South of Wendover, NV. This geothermal lake is about 4 acres and boasts a surface temperature
in the low 70's, even in the winter months. Visibility ranges from 5-10 feet in the winter to 15-20 feet spring through fall.
Bluelake has two platforms for student training, a dock for giant stride entries, and several sunken boats to explore. Fish
life is abundant with Bluegill and Bass the primary residents. 5mm or thicker full suits and gloves are recommended. In the
colder months (and especially with wind) lightweight hoods and reef gloves are nice to have.
Bluelake sits on the Southern edge of the Great Salt Lake. There are no facilities or services at the lake. In fact, there
is hardly anything but mud and desert grass. Due to the always present mud we recommend you bring a tarp and some garbage
bags. Also, it is advised that you take care of personal needs in town before going to the lake.
Once parked at the lake you will find a boardwalk leading to the lake. It is 100+ yards. If you have a bad back or have
difficulty lifting, it is advised that you arrive early to allow you to make several trips to the lake from the parking lot.
When parking at the lake stay on higher ground and avoid wet areas. It is extremely easy to get stuck.

Directions: from Boise take I-84 east to Twin Falls. Follow the signs to Wells, NV or Jackpot NV.
Take highway 30 to Wells. From Wells, take I-80 toward Salt Lake city. Take the main Wendover exit (at the Peppermill Casino).
The visitor's center is located directly across from the Peppermill. (note: Wendover

To get to Bluelake from Wendover take ALT 93 towards Ely. Set your trip odometer before leaving. Go 16 miles and you will
see a sign for Bluelake. Turn left and go 0.8 miles and stay right. Then you will go about 0.2 miles and turn left. Should
be another homemade sign pointing left. Follow the dirt road another 4.6 miles where you will take either the 1st left (rougher
and muddier) or the 2nd (120 degree) left another 0.3 miles. Go 0.4 miles and stay to the right. This should take into Bluelake
in just 1/2 mile. Park on the right. Generally follow where it looks like most vehicle are going. Look for steam or vehicles
when at high points on the road. The road is often rough and muddy. Although 4-wheel drive vehicle are not required, it is
recommended you drive a more durable vehicle.
